Gallery Conversation with Professor Tim McCleary (LBHC) on Apsáalooke Language

Visit the Yellowstone Art Museum on May 16 for a FREE Gallery Talk by Little Big Horn College Professor Tim McCleary. A casual reception with a cash bar will begin at 5:00 PM; the Gallery Conversation begins at 5:30 PM.

Professor McCleary, who provided translation of text accompanying the In Conversation: Will Wilson Exhibit, will speak about the intricacies of the Apsáalooke language, the process of translating from English to Apsáalooke, and how the two languages relate to one another. The talk will touch on the importance of cultural identity, which is a prevalent theme in the Wilson exhibit.

Dr. McCleary, Department Head of General Studies at Little Big Horn College, received his masters from the University of Montana and his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. McCleary has instructed at Little Big Horn College, the Crow Tribal College, for thirty-four years. Little Big Horn College is located at Crow Agency, Montana on the Crow Indian Reservation. The student body is composed primarily of Crow Tribal members.
