Summer Camp Registration Opens April 1, 2026

Registration for YAM Summer Camps and Classes opens early for YAM Members on Monday, March 30th! Camps fill up quickly. If you’re not yet a member, join today to receive a discount and early registration!

The YAM offers classes and camps throughout the summer. This is your chance to make art, learn more about art techniques, and discover new art and artists.

summer art academy camp 2026

Young artists learn from professional artists in small groups on the campus of Montana State University Billings.

When: June 1 – 5 & June 8 – 12, 2026 | Drop-off 8:30 – 8:45 AM, Pick-up 3:45 – 4 PM
Cost: Members: $335 | Non-Yet Members: $375
Ages: 8 – 14

Week 2 (June 8 – 12) is full, but students can still select and register for classes.

Summer Art Academy is in its 26th season and now at MSUB

At this camp, young artists study under professional artists in concentrated areas that they choose. Class sizes are limited. Art supplies are included in the cost of tuition. Students bring their own snacks and lunches. Summer Art Academy is located on the campus of Montana State University Billings.

Painting, Sculpture, Drawing, Wearable Indigenous Art, Puppetry and more!

Folk Tales and Fanfare Special YAM Camp
Spend the week taking an in-depth look at the work of Janina Myronova in her exhibition Folktales and Fanfare and create art based on her ideas and techniques.

When: Ages 7 – 10 from July 6 – 10, 2026 | 9 AM – 3 PM
Cost: Members: $300 | Non-Yet Members: $335

 

YAM Camp
Spend an entire week exploring art, going behind the scenes at the YAM, and creating colorful whimsical art inspired by the exhibitions. The final day culminates in an art show where students get to show off their own artwork that was created during the camp.

When: Ages 6 – 8 from August 3 – 7, 2026 | 9 AM – 3 PM
Ages 7 – 9 from August 10 – 14, 2026 | 9 AM – 3 PM
Ages 9 – 12 from August 17 – 21, 2026 | 9 AM – 3 PM

Summer Art Studio Classes 2026

When: June 18 & 25; July 16, & 23
Morning Session: 10 AM – 12 PM & Afternoon Session: 1 – 3 PM
Cost: Members: $10 | Not-Yet Members: $20
Ages: 5 – 12

At these Thursday classes, tour, explore, and learn to create art. Every week focuses on a different exhibition and technique.

Registration opens on April 1st.

June 18 | Freedom to Create
Inspired by the artists in the exhibition Visions of America: the Spirit of Independence, we will use printmaking to celebrate the freedom to express ourselves through art!

June 25 | Playing with Imagination
Imagine, design, and craft the art of your dreams inspired by Janina Myronova’s exhibition Folktales and Fanfare.

July 16 | Pulp, Pile, in Practice
Experiment with new materials like exhibiting artist Rebecca Hutchinson, to create a transformative work of art.

July 23 | Lights! Camera! Ranching!
Be inspired by Will James’ time on the silver screen and create your own technicolor artwork!

Technique Tuesdays Classes 2026

When: On Tuesdays, June 23 & July 14, 21, & 28
Ages 5 – 12 from 10 AM – 12 PM
Ages 9 – 16 from 1 – 3 PM

Join us for a deep dive into art mediums and techniques. Each Tuesday, learn a new skill and a new way to create art!

June 23 | Collage
Collage is more than just snip, tear, cut, and paste! Join us to learn how to assemble your own work of art!

July 14 | Needle Felting
Create a whimsical sculptural work using fibers and felting techniques.

July 21 | Printmaking
Learn a variety of techniques to transfer an image from matrix to paper using ink.

July 28 | Painting
Explore color, texture, and saturation through different painting techniques.
