Yellowstone Art Auction Gala

Join the action at the YAM’s Art Auction Gala event! The Gala is the museum’s signature annual black-tie fundraiser. This event concludes the month-long art auction through an exciting evening of live bidding and dinner. Volunteers are vital to the success of this event and assist alongside staff with tasks like door greeting, check-ins, cleanup, assisting with seating, event setup, and teardown.

SummerFair

Art! Food! Music! What’s not to love about SummerFair? SummerFair is the longest running arts and crafts festival in the region, featuring family activities, performers, and creative vendors from near and far. SummerFair is also the biggest lift for the YAM Staff and that is why volunteers are so appreciated during this event. Lasting two days, we need volunteers for a wide range of tasks such as set up, admissions, vendor checks, beverages, and tear down. All volunteers get free admission and a T-shirt.

Other Special Events

Event Production

Are you a creative, artistic individual seeking more opportunities to craft? The YAM Staff are always looking for creative volunteers to add to our team and help with event production. Perfect for an individual with an art background or a passion for crafting, this role can include set-building, painting, and other projects.

Administrative Opportunities

Are you someone who enjoys organization? Assist staff in a variety of departments in a wide range of important duties including data entry, filing, copying, mailings, and data management.

Curatorial Assistance

Have you ever wanted to learn about what the Curator of a museum does or gain valuable experience in the field? Curatorial volunteers may assist with the YAM’s Permanent Collection database and as a research assistant to the Curator.

Art Handling

Learn what it takes to manage a museum collection by helping the YAM’s Preparator with inventory or Art Auction packaging. Art handling experience is preferred, but not strictly necessary.

Gardening and Groundskeeping

Do you have a green thumb and enjoy working outside? This volunteer role is for you! The YAM outdoor campus is bustling with natural activity during the spring, summer, and fall. We need your assistance with weeding flower beds, planting new flowers in the spring, and clearing leaves and debris throughout the year.

FAQs

How do I know if I am qualified for a certain role?

The majority of volunteer positions at YAM will include on-site training before your scheduled shift. However, roles such as Event Production and Curatorial Assistance may require an arts background. Your knowledge in these fields will be evaluated during an informal meeting with the Volunteer Coordinator and another team member in that area. However, there is no harm in expressing your interest in a role! We have a diverse array of jobs within a given role.

I want to volunteer, but I am concerned about the time commitment it will take.

We fully recognize that volunteerism requires a significant amount of your personal time and effort. Once you’ve filled out the interest form, Katie Bales, the Volunteer Coordinator, will reach out to you to talk about your availability. This discussion will determine the time commitment required for your role. Almost all of our roles are fully flexible and can be adapted to best fit each volunteer.

I just submitted my interest form, what comes next?

After completing the interest form indicating your preferred role(s), you will be contacted by the Volunteer Coordinator, Katie Bales, to discuss your availability and what volunteer role would be the best fit for you. If you have any immediate questions or concerns, please contact Katie at membership@artmuseum.org or (406) 256.6804, ext. 222.
