Eric Jensen is a Billings-based abstract landscape painter with a focus on spiritual relationships with place. As part of his artistic practice, Jensen travels and camps throughout the region, observing mountain ranges, forests, and other impressionable elements of nature:

My paintings are evidence of my attempts to form relationships with the landscapes that I live in. I read about their history and the geological and botanical nature of the place. I spend time observing their various characteristics throughout different times of day and different seasons.

Born in Utah, Eric was raised in Virginia by parents who were also painters. He received an MFA in painting from the University of Montana, Missoula, and currently teaches at both Rocky Mountain College and Montana State University—Billings.

The Yellowstone Art Museum (YAM) and Billings Logan International Airport (BIL) are excited to exhibit the work of Eric Jensen as the first exhibition of a solo artist in Concourse B. Drawing upon his tranquil and spiritual images of nature, we encourage visitors to slow down during their travels, and honor Jensen’s efforts to make art exhibitions a vital part of the airport experience.

In 2025, Jensen served as steward for the inaugural BIL and YAM partnership exhibitions, Big Art Under the Big Sky and Starlight on Snowdrifts. Each exhibition showcased a variety of, multi-disciplinary artists from across the region and represented a monumental effort toward recognition and celebration of Montana artists.
