YAM has between four and 10 galleries, depending on how you count. The exhibitions balance work from the collection and temporary loans, local and nationally known artists, and solo and group shows. The focus is on contemporary art, usually by living artists. Historical work is also shown both for context and because the past is never truly over.

Boundless Visions features changing selections from the YAM's permanent collections, which emphasize art from the mid-twentieth century to the present. This long-term exhibition is the only exhibition in Montana where you can learn the story of art in this region from its beginnings to the present day.
Art-o-mat machines are retired cigarette vending machines that have been converted to sell art. And just what exactly do you get from an Art-o-mat? The experience of pulling the knob alone is quite a thrill, but you also walk away with an original work of art. What an easy way to become an art collector!
